I got this  error while trying to login to HP ProBook laptop.
Whenever I put password I got HRESULT error with 0x8007ffff code
and on the bottom it just says ‘OK’ i press it and it goes back to the login screen.

First option is to use HP recovery tools and try to use recovery/repair CD
Using this option you are in risk to lose your data-Not Good.

Other option is try using some other administrative account. I was able to login with local administrative account , also you can use domain admin.

From logs I found that what is causing the issue is the HP software installed on laptop . I removed all HP ProtectTools related SW.

To be more specific

• Device Access Manger for HP ProtectTools
• Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
• Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools

After reboot you will be able to login with your account.

I read about third option.
You can also login in safe mode and reset user password.

Windows 2008 has built in policy GPO for wireless setting management.
You can configure your network setting using Certificates. It is the most recommended and secure way
But if you like to deploy the wireless settings using static key, you will have to use other way.

The steps bellow describe the way to deploy Wireless LAN settings with a Pre-Shared Key
The purpose is to Automate Adding Wireless Profile in Windows.

Preparations

• Configure Wireless settings on one workstation
• from command prompt run
  netsh wlan export profile name="NameOfyourProfile" folder=c:temp interface="wirelesssettings”
• Confirm that under c:temp you have wirelesssettings.xml file
• Open wirelesssettings.xml file locate the following line
  <protected>true</protected>
• Change it to <protected>false</protected>
• Under you will see encrypted line <keyMaterial>01000000D08C9DDF0115D1118</keyMaterial>
• Change it to your key like that <keyMaterial>Yourkey</keyMaterial>
  

  Note: It means that your wireless key will be in clear text and everyone who has access to the file will be able to read your wireless key"

Deployment

• Copy your wireless settings xml file to NETLOGON
• Create a bat or cmd file with the following line
  netsh wlan add profile filename="\yourserverNETLOGONwirelesssettings.xml" user=all
• Run the bat file from some domain member computer and confirm that it works

After finishing all steps above you can deploy the script from GPO

Note: Setting are applicable for Windows Vista Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Only

You can use windows host file to create static entries for name resolution
You can’t edit host file as regular user. In order to edit hosts file you need to have administrative privileges.

Windows 7 or Vista host file is located under the following path
%systemroot%system32driversetchosts  usually it is  C:windowssystem32driversetchosts

To edit the host file,
Locate your “Notepad“ program , right-click on it and select “Run as Administrator“. If you are not logged as administrator You will be asked to put administrator password .

HyperTerminal is not included in Windows 7 and Vista.
I combined a list of alternative utilities that can be used instead.

First is PuTTy

PuTTy is a terminal program designed  not only for Serial port connections , it can be used to initiate SSH or Telnet sessions.

Second is Realterm

Realterm is a serial/tcpip terminal program which can be used for , controlling and debugging binary and other difficult data streams. It is far better for debugging comms than Hyperterminal. It has no support for dialing modems, BBS etc – that is what hyperterminal does.

Third is TeraTerm

Tera Term (Pro) is a free software terminal emulator (communication program) for MS-Windows. It supports VT100 emulation, telnet connection, serial port connection, and so on.

Alternatively you can use legacy windows XP hyperterm by downloading the following file and extract it in your system32 folder.

I got this after installing some update, can’t say exactly which.
The problem symptom is that when you type anything in search bar it looks like that

To solve it.

Go to Run> type regedit.exe

Navigate to :HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionExplorerFolderTypes{EF87B4CB-F2CE-4785-8658-4CA6C63E38C6}TopViews

You will see a key named {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
Just rename it to anything else like {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}.Orig

After you rename the key , start Task manager and kill the explorer.exe process

Run the process again from file>New Task (Run..)

Type in bar explorer.exe

And Walla!

It works!

• First confirm that you inserted your installation DVD or Pen Drive to your PC.( Read here how to create a windows 7 bootable USB key)
• Insure that your PC Bios is been set up to boot from CD/DVD/USB
  When you see the Press any Key to boot from CD or DVD hit Enter
• Disk will load installation menu and will show language chose menu.
  After installation language is chosen press “next”
  
• On next window press on Install now
  
• Here we chose on which disk Windows 7 will be installed.
  
• Chose automatic or custom installation, I recommend Custom
  
• Here we chose if we want to do windows update during installation , preferred is to do updates after clean install.
  
• Windows will start installation and you don’t need to do anything till the end.

In Vista Windows 2008  or Windows 7 when  you right-click the network icon in the navigation area, but it does not take you directly to the Network Connections properties as we are used to in Windows XP 2000 or 2003 .
You can access Network Connections management menu by running ncpa.cpl from run menu or you can create a shortcut that will access those menu by key combination.

To create ncpa.cpl shortcut

• Right-click on the desktop
• Click: New>Shortcut
• Type the location of the item: ncpa.cpl 
  
• Choose a suitable name, e.g. ‘Network Connection’
   
• Right-click on the newly created shortcut
• Select Properties and seek the dialog box called Shortcut Key.
      Simply over-type ‘None’ with the combination that suits you, for example:
      Ctrl +Alt +N.  Start by holding the Ctrl key, ‘None’ should change.
   
• Now by pressing on Ctrl +Alt+N Network Connection Properties will Open.

Creating shortcuts using control panel applets (CPL files) can be be very useful.
