How blackberry email reconciliation-(Deleting Emails) works.

Posted on August 28th, 2008 in BlackBerry Device by Gil Kreslavsky

What is email reconciliation?

Email reconciliation is used to configure email deletion handling option of email accounts that are set in BB device.
For each mail account you can state whether you want the e-mail deleted on the handheld or the mailbox and handheld;
You can set the device the following ways:
Enable or disable wireless reconciliation and configure how conflicts are handled.

In order to set reconciling options on Black Berry Device go to:

Messages –> then select “Options”–> “Email Reconciliation”

Reconciliation options are:

Delete on: “Mailbox & handheld” – Means: When you delete message on Device or outlook message will be deleted.
Delete on: “Handled” – Means: When you delete message on Device, message won’t be deleted from mailbox.
Recommended settings setup:

1. From your home screen, go into your Messages folder.
2. Once in your messages, folder, bring up your menu
3. Scroll down to and choose “Options”.
4. Scroll down to and select “Email Reconciliation”.
5. In the “Email Reconciliation” menu, make sure “Delete On” is set to “Mailbox & Handheld”.
6. Confirm that Wireless Reconcile is set to “On”
7. Confirm that “On Conflicts” your “Mailbox Wins”
8. Save your changes.
9. Exit back out to your messages folder, and once again bring up the menu.
10. Scroll down to “Reconcile Now” to force reconciliation between your handheld and In-Box.
11. Your messages should now synchronize between your BlackBerry and In-Box.
Some general guidelines for Reconciliation

Most people thing that message deleted on outlook should disappear from BB device immediately and start panic. So don’t , be more patient . it takes approximately 20 minutes till messages are deleted from Handheld

1. If you delete an email from Outlook you need to leave it in the recycle bin otherwise the BES will lose track of the email and it won’t be deleted from the device. Don’t use (Shift+Delete)
2.If you Outlook account is set up to transfer new emails to PST . They will never get to your BB device.
3. Remember! The deletes from Exchange to BlackBerry is not immediate. BES reconcile uses the 20/100 rule. That’s every 20 minutes or 100 changes whichever comes first. Alternatively, you can use the Reconsile Now function. Outlook in cached mode only does send and receive every 5 minutes (this also updates read, deleted & moved items), then the device will only do reconciliations every 15 minutes. To speed this process up just hit “Send & Receive” and then “Reconcile Now” on the device.

Testing:
Outlook to  BB takes up to 20 min. I find it useful to do this test:
Delete – BB
Delete – Outlook

Wait for them to deliver to both mailbox and BB.
Now delete – BB on Blackberry and watch outlook, it should take a min or two. And move to deleted in Outlook
If that works… It’s working as it should and you’re dealing with a user workflow issue. I find it helpful to turn off Empty delete folder on exit.

Separate email messages and SMS/MMS messages in Blackerry

Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Black Berry, BlackBerry Device by Gil Kreslavsky

Use Separate Icon for SMS messages, and for regular email messages.

Since OS 4.2.1.xx on Curve and Pearl Blackberry Devices ,there is possibility to separate email messages and SMS/MMS messages indicators .

Go under Messages, hit on menu button, go to General Options, scroll down to SMS and Email boxes and you now have three choices!

  • Theme Controlled – Some themes automatically have a separate SMS icon . That option just leaves it up to the theme default.
  • Combined – Will deliver SMS messages to the same mailbox as your email.
  • Separate – Will deliver SMS messages and Email messages to a separate mailbox

BlackBerry Enterprise Server: Users Not Receiving Messages to Handheld After Mailbox Move

Posted on July 24th, 2008 in BES Server, Black Berry, BlackBerry Device, Excahnge 2000, Excahnge 2003, Excahnge 2007 by Gil Kreslavsky

Users Not Receiving Messages to Handheld After Mailbox Move

BlackBerry server maps user mailboxes by using a process called worker treads. Blackberry version [4.0.4.5], is capable of mapping worker treads back to a user mailboxes when a mailbox gets moved to a different store by scanning the GAL for changes in the Server DN.BES users may not receive messages to their handheld device after a mailbox move .

After mailbox move the BES server should pick up the new mailbox location and start sending again within 15min.

The only thing you have to watch is moving the BES service account mailbox, Also be sure the BES service account has the appropriate permissions on the new Exchange server Information Store before you start moving user mailboxes, full send as/receive as. I would suggest moving the user mailboxes and then the service account

To move user mailboxes:

Move them as you normally would, use the Exchange mailbox move wizard.

RIM suggests you run the mailbox cleanup utility on the BES server after mailbox move

Restart BES Services:

* Mailbox move within the same server are not updated by BES and messages are not received by BB devices until BES services are restarted. This is because BES scans user’s mailboxes for changes in the Server DN. Since mailboxes are moved within the same server, BES is unaware of the mailbox move.

Using Cleanup Utility:

* Run C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry Enterprise Server\Utility\handheldcleanup -u

Move BB Service Account:

* Log in to Blackberry Enterprise Server as the blackberry system account
* Stop all Blackberry Enterprise Server services
* Move the blackberry system mailbox to Exchange 2003
* On the blackberry Server: Go to Start-> Programs-> Blackberry Enterprise
* Server-> Edit the MAPI Profile for the Blackberry Server
* Type “new Exchange server name” in the Microsoft Exchange Server field
* Type “blackberry service account name” in the Mailbox field
* Run Handheld Cleanup utility on BES Server “C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry Enterprise Server\Utility\handheldcleanup -m”
* Start Blackberry Enterprise Server service

Can’t delete messages on Blackberry Device

Posted on June 30th, 2008 in Black Berry by Gil Kreslavsky

I had this problem, and I didn’t want to wipe my device and run activation again ..

So why it happens?
The message list corrupts from some reason and as result BB OS cannot reference the message ID and delete the message.

Solution:

Conect your device with USB cable , run BB desctop Manager and select backup and restore.
Press on Backup , save the file on your local computer.
Then Pres Advanced on backup menu , select messages on Handheld DB and press Clear
Now the corupted messages list is cleared .
All you need to do is to restore it back.
