Manual uninstall of VMware Tools Windows 2003 and 2008

When you try to upgrade to new version of VMware tools , Installation wizard asks you to uninstall older version .
If you can’t do it , or uninstall feature failed to complete, you will need to uninstall them manually.

You may receive the following errors
A previous version of VMware Tools is already installed

To remove old VMware tools follow the steps bellow:

Open registry editor
Navigate to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionuninstall search for VMware Tools related branch and delete the key Please note:Do not delete the entire uninstall branch.
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareClassesInstallerProducts search for VMware Tools related branch and delete the key
Please note:Do not delete the entire Products key
Navigate to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInstallerProducts search for VMware Tools related branch and delete the key
Please note:Do not delete the entire Products key
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareVMware Delete the branch called VMware Tools.
Delete the "VMware Tools" directory within in the Vmware directory under Program Files
Restart the server
Install updated version of VMware Tools through Vsphere Client or VMware client

BES 5 BlackBerry Monitoring Service web console access issues

While trying to connect to BES Monitoring via web browser you may receive the following error message

The application has encountered a system error. Please report this error to the System Administrator or "Page cannot be found"

This is a known issue and can be solved by following the steps bellow.

Stop BlackBerry Monitoring related services
Change server date to September 1st 2010
Navigate to C:Program FilesResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerMonitoring Servicebin and rename web.keystore file to web.keystore.old
Open command prompt as administrator
Navigate to C:Program Files(x86)Research In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerMonitoring Servicebin
Run the following command in command prompt window WebGenKey.bat "C:Program Files (x86)Javajre1.6.0_18" "C:Program Files (x86)Research In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerMonitoring Service" newpasword Server FQDN
Open registry editor (regedit)
locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerMonitoring Service
Change the value in KeyStorePass to the password you used in script in line 6
Start BlackBerry Monitoring related services
Try to log in to web console
Change time back to normal

The meeting may have been updated or deleted since this message was sent

You may see this error when you try to accept recurrence meeting ,which time was been updated.

To resolve this issue:

On the BES Server, click Start > Run and type regedit.
Navigate to the following registry HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0OutlookOptionsCalendar.
Right-click the Calendar folder and click New > DWORD Value.
Type DisableMeetingRegeneration and press ENTER.
Double-click the new key and type 1 in the Value data field of the Edit String screen.
Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

Go to your device and delete BIS CICAL service book

To delete CICAL on BB device go to Settings–>Advanced Options –> Service Books
Locate BIS CICAL and delete it.

Than go to your BlackBerry Enterprise server , right click on user and pres “Resend Service Book”

Restart your device and meeting accepts should start working.

Outlook 2007 free/busy works slow or could not be retrieved

During migration from Exchange 2003 to 2007 we had the problem with Outlook 2007 client free busy response was slow , about 10 seconds to load .

To fix it .
Open registry editor on your Desktop(where outlook is installed)

Navigate to the following path : HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0OutlookOptionsCalendar
Create new DWORD value named UseLegacyFB and set value to 1

Note:
0 or not set will use default outlook settings
1 will use Public Folder based Free/Busy information

Reset and Fix Windows Vista default file extention type associations

Windows Vista file sort and file extensions associations may corrupted or get broken , some files with a couple of extensions cannot be opened properly.
For example, some third party programs or viruses may wrongly set or assign file associations for extensions that don’t have a default program such as .exe, inf, .com, .sys, .lnk, folder, directory.
You can change default program for specific file extension via folder option in control panel or by clicking right click on a file >open with >chose desired program to open the file and mark “Always use this initiative to open this kind of file” option.

When a file default program for opening file extension is deleted or misconstrued , the icon for the file kind becomes blank in the shape of empty paper list
And when user double clicks on the file he receives “Open With” dialog to chose a program to open the file with.

The problem is especially worse when the file association for executable in .exe extensions is broken, causing programs such as Acrobat Reader, Outlook , Word , Internet Explore , and even Registry Editor that is necessary to fix the invalid file association problems ,cannot be started, and unable to launch or execute.

Windows Vista obvious file extension Set Association management interface cannot reset and fix the corrupted or invalid file association back to factory default, or at least coming back to a workable state. As a workaround, user can try to manually remove the user-choice file association to restore back to Windows default file type and extension association.

If the manual deletion of personalized file association performs not work, or ask for to direct yet simple fix for the file type and file extension association problem.

To fix the problem Download Winhelponline.com vista-extentions-fix.zip registry fix file .
Unzip it and execute the files bu needed extension

Note that to run registry files you need to right click it and chose “Run as Administrator” to apply the file association fix for the respective file type and extension.

Change windows vista default program association via registry

Windows Vista allows users to change and set default program association for most sort of file extension via Control Panel’s “Set Associations” and “Set Default Programs” under “Default Programs” link.

However, there is no option to reset or restore file extension association back to original settings as in freshly installed Windows Vista OS.

List of programs out there under “Set Default Programs” link, such as Internet Explorer, Outlook, Calender, Windows Mail, Windows Media Player, winamp, winzip and Windows Photo Gallery have defined their own default file extensions, types and protocols.
And, user can clearly set the program as the default program to use to open all file sorts and protocols it can open.
Even so, it may not be the default file association such a configured in Windows Vista originally.

Unless user remembers and knows the original file association and change the default program for the kind of file type accordingly using the graphical user interface (GUI) in Control Panel, else here’s another workaround to restore and reset the file association to the default Windows Vista version of file association.

Click Start Menu, and when that happens type regedit in the Start Search and press ENTER.
Navigate to the following registry branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurre ntVersionExplorerFileExts[ext] Replace the [exe] with the actual file extension that you want to restore . If you unsure, coup browse through all the sub-key under FileExts.
Delete the sub-key named UserChoice.
Exit from Registry Editor.

Terminal Server 2008 Sounds and Beeps on errors

Disable sound in RDP not working in Windows Terminal Services

OK, the same bug was in Windows 2003sp1 terminal server, MS fixed it in SP 2.
The problem is that even after you disable sound redirection via GPO you still got beeps on error messages.

I found a way to fix it.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and edit the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlTerminal Server
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type DisableBeep, and then press ENTER.
Right-click DisableBeep, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK
Quit Registry Editor.
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc and hit enter button.
Locate Terminal Services service and press restart (That will drop all users connected to TS server)
Reconnect to terminal server

Note You can disable the MessageBeep function by changing the value to 1 to enable back change to 0.

How to speed up your BES/BlackBerry Software configuration delivery

Default “delay” for pushing software with “Software Configurations delivery” is set up to 4 hours.

You can change this value and speed up the process by editing AppProvisionsPollInterval registry value on BB server

Open registry editor by going start>run>regedit
Find HKEY_LCOAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerBlacikBerry IT Admin Server
Add DWORD value “BlackBerry Polling Service”
Set decimal number of minutes 90 or 60
Restart BES server services

Note: Within a production environment, avoid seting this key lower than one hour (60minutes).

Configure BlackBerry Enterprise Server to work with LDAP instead MAPI

Reasons to do do the update.

If you receive errors

Unable to initialize the MAPI using profile BlackBerry Server Management! Please contact your BlackBerry administrator.
Unable to initialize the RIMDatabase class
Unable to save configuration settings or statistics

If you are moving mailboxes across information stores and you don’t want to reboot server or restart services.

And if you are using multiple domains

Procedure

The LDAPDomain , LDAPSearch , LDAPport , LDApssl , LDAPALPSearch registry entries are used to configure the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. These registry entries allow the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to use LDAP instead of the default Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) for specific functions.

LDAPDomain

The LDAPDomain entry configures the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to use a specific domain when performing LDAP searches.

Note: In an environment with multiple domains, the LDAPDomain key is required.

Open the Registry Editor by clicking Start > Run . Type regedit and click OK .
Go to the following path in the registry:
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and laterHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerAgents
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software versions 3.5 and 3.6HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerServers
Create a new String Value called LDAPDomain and change the entry in the Value data field to the Global Catalog and Port that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will use. If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server must connect to multiple Global Catalogs for name resolution, specify all of them in this value with their fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) as follows:: : :

Example : dc01.domain.com:389

Press ENTER .
If you are not configuring other entries, close the Registry Editor.

LDAPSearch

The LDAPSearch entry is used for address resolution only.

Go to the following path in the registry:
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and laterHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerAgents
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software versions 3.5 and 3.6HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerServers
Create a new DWORD Value called LDAPSearch and change the entry in the Value data field to 1 .
Select the Hexadecimal option and press ENTER .
If you are not configuring other entries, close the Registry Editor.

LDAPport

The LDAPport entry configures the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to use a specific LDAP port for searches.

Go to the following path in the registry:

LDAPssl

The LDAPssl entry enables the use of LDAP over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for searches or lookups.

Go to the following path in the registry:

Create a new DWORD Value called LDAPssl and change the entry in the Value data field to 1 .
Select the Hexadecimal option and press ENTER .

LDAPALPSearch

The LDAPALPSearch entry is used for address lookups from the BlackBerry smartphone.

Note: This entry only applies to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREResearch In MotionBlackBerry Enterprise ServerAgents .
Create a new DWORD Value called LDAPALPSearch and change the entry in the Value data field to 1 .
Select the Hexadecimal option and press ENTER .
Close the Registry Editor.
